Terry Fox Run

On September 24th, 2017 you should have been in  Zagreb. Jarun, more precisely. Why? Because of the Terry Fox Run. You would have enjoyed it very much.

It's a very special occasion where people of all ages gather and run the Marathon of Hope. It is named after a young Canadian, Terrence Stanley 'Terry' Fox who was an athlete and a cancer research activist.  He had cancer and after losing a leg, he decided to raise money for cancer research by running east to west across Canada, having one artificial leg. Unfortunately, his cancer spread while running the Marathon of Hope so he needed to quit after 143 days and 5 373 km. Although he died of cancer, his legacy lives on.

The first annual Terry Fox Run was held in 1981. And 18 years ago the first Croatian Terry Fox Run was held in the capital of Croatia, Zagreb. This year, it reached the age of majority and gathered 6000 people who ran the marathon for a good cause.

Well done, Zagreb! Well done, Croatia!

My students and I were invited to join the Run by Mr Mark Mocnaj, our Canadian guest and speaker from two years ago, but, unfortunately we couldn't go due to the problems of transport.

Still, I want to thank Mark for thinking of us and inviting us. It means a lot to both my students and me.
