OUR ENGLISH CORNER

A boo-tiful Halloween

On 31 October 2024 at the Nikola Tesla Branch School in Moravice, everything was in the spirit of one of the most popular holidays in the English-speaking world – Halloween. All were masked young and old and staged a real fashion show of colourful masks from pirate captains, hackers, and superheroes to witches, thieves, and rock stars. The students of the lower grades also presented their artworks inspired by Halloween, and then the students of the upper grades tried their luck in the game of bobbing for apples. They successfully grabbed all the floating apples and had a great time doing it. In the end, there was a distribution of Halloween certificates, gift bags, and some treats to sweeten the day even more.

European Day of Languages 2024

Since September 26th is traditionally celebrated as the European Day of Languages, the students of Branch School Nikola Tesla from Moravice dedicated a whole week to that special day. They learnt a lot of new things, repeated what they already knew, and also had a great time. Our youngest, first, and second graders made paper dolls in folk costumes from European countries and, in addition to the appearance of traditional costumes, learnt the names of these countries and their traditional dishes. Third and fourth graders became world travellers and created their passports in which they entered the countries they wanted to visit – they found out what the flags look like and some interesting things related to the selected countries. The fifth graders played a guessing game Where’s Wally? in which, based on the flag and some sights and landmarks, they had to tell which country it was. The seventh graders also tried their luck in finding Wally but also in trying to guess how many languages some celebrities speak.  The fifth, sixth, and eighth-grade students tried their hand at the Talk to me! pub quiz full of interesting questions on languages, history, geography, and sports and achieved enviable results. But the most important was that all the students had lots of fun!

As Edward De Waal said, With languages, you are at home anywhere.

Peter Pan Comes to London

The Little Bookworms from the 4th class read a book Peter Pan Comes to London where they met Peter Pan, a boy who didn’t want to grow up, and his faithful fairy Tinkerbell as well as Wendy and her younger brothers John and Michael. The book introduces the main characters and takes us to the imaginary land of Neverland. After reading the book and doing the reading comprehension tasks, the 4th graders had a creative assignment of visually presenting their own Neverland.

Look at their works to see what they imagine Neverland looks like.
